Pause. Using the EIVSOM Model to Interrupt Reactivity.

Sometimes the biggest change doesn't come from acting faster—it comes from pausing before you act. The EIVSOM Coaching and Learning Framework helps create that moment, transforming reactions into intentional choices through emotional intelligence and value systems.

One of the most valuable outcomes of the EIVSOM Coaching and Learning Framework isn't simply learning new concepts—it's creating space between an event and your response. As Dr. Robert Graves explains, "The CBA—we tend to say choices, behaviors, and attitudes in the EIVSOM Model—just gave them that second to not be reactionary." That brief pause allows people to evaluate their actions through the lens of emotional intelligence and value systems, making more intentional decisions instead of automatic ones.

Dr. Graves also highlights a common pattern: "People jump to the how. That's often the reactionary, just 'how am I going to deal with this?' without thinking about the why and the what." The EIVSOM learning process encourages a different sequence: first understand why you're thinking or acting, then explore what it means, and only then decide how to respond. This simple framework develops stronger emotional intelligence and value systems while reducing impulsive reactions.

As Dr. Graves concludes, "It just gives you that moment to pause. Because if you can think, 'how am I choosing to do this? Am I choosing it with not good emotional intelligence and value systems?' it just gives you that moment to pause." That pause is where growth begins. It's also why understanding and naming what you're experiencing becomes such an important part of building lasting habits. Every intentional choice is another repetition in your Mental Fitness Gym, helping you make the gains that matter most.
